(ELK CITY, OK) — The Elk City United Methodist Church, Sayre United Methodist Church and Oklahoma United Methodist Circle of Care, a statewide nonprofit foster care agency, have announced plans to collaborate on a building project to provide a home for large sibling sets in foster care in Beckham County.
In 2017, Circle of Care launched the Legacy of Care campaign, a $5 million capital campaign to address the needs of sibling sets in foster care amid the state’s severe shortage of foster homes for sibling sets of three or more children. Larger sibling sets are most often separated, not for lack of willingness on the part of foster families, but because of space.

Contracted by the Oklahoma Department of Human Services, Circle of Care strives to increase the number of foster parents in Oklahoma. Additionally, the agency places a priority on keeping siblings together while they are in foster care. The Legacy of Care campaign is designed to fund the construction and long-term support of eight large, custom, single-family homes and five clubhouses/activity centers throughout the state to accommodate up to 48 foster children.
The Elk City Church donated approximately 1-1/2 acres just north of their church building across Country Club Road for the project. Leadership and members of both churches have been involved in planning for this home for over a year. The Elk City and Sayre communities aim to raise $200,000 locally to contribute to the construction of the “Cimarron Home”.
