Hi, I'm Rachel
Welcome to my little corner of the website! I’m excited that you’re here and on the journey of deciding if we would be a good fit to work together. Please grab a snack and a good cup of coffee and let me tell you a little about me!
A little bit about me first: Since I began my career in 2018, I’ve been working with families and adults who have been impacted by foster care and/or adoption. I have felt so incredibly honored to work with these individuals and for them to trust me with their stories. My goal is always to provide a welcoming space for my clients to come back to week after week.
I graduated with my master’s degree in Social Work in 2023 and the four letters you see after my name, LMSW, mean I am a licensed master’s level social worker. I am working towards becoming a licensed clinical social worker. This means I meet with a more experienced therapist weekly who checks in with me and continues to challenge me to grow in my skills. Once I have 3,000 clinical hours under my belt, I’ll be eligible to take the exam to become an LCSW.
In my free time, I thoroughly enjoy trying out new recipes, reading (especially on a rainy day with a good candle), watching Thunder games, and going shoe shopping (or at least adding them to my cart and not necessarily buying them 😉).
I enjoy working with a mix of child, teen, and adult clients, but my approach to each looks a little bit different. When working with teens and adults, I feel it is important to me to partner with them so that they take an active role in their own healing process. I want our focus to be on the client’s goals for therapy so that we can tailor our time together to their specific needs. I am equally passionate about working with people to find the little things that bring them joy. This is why I love incorporating art, games, and creativity in therapy- regardless of if they’re 4 or 94! I also want my clients to feel comfortable taking care of themselves during our sessions, whether that means making sure you have something to drink, a cozy blanket, or even having lunch together if our session is during your midday break.
When working with young children, I passionately believe that therapy should feel like play. I tend to cater activities during sessions to the child’s interest- whether that be art, active games, or playing with Bluey or Pokemon in a therapeutic way. I also believe in including the family throughout the process of therapy. To see true change happen, I believe we often need to empower the entire family system to build each other up and cheer each other on during this work.
Now for logistics: I split my time between the Oklahoma City and Shawnee areas, and see clients in office and virtual settings. Because I am travelling between two cities during the week, I limit the amount of home-based and school-based sessions that I do. A typical week for me looks like spending Monday and Tuesday in our Oklahoma City office in the Nichols Hills area, seeing clients virtually on Wednesdays, and seeing clients in our Shawnee office on Thursdays and Fridays.
